Instructions for Integrating NanoGong with Moodle 1
This page is intended for administrators (the people who do the installing or updating). If you are a teacher or student (that is, you only use the system, and not install things on it), you can ignore this page.
These are the instructions for integrating NanoGong with Moodle 1. You should already have a working version of Moodle installed.
- If you have not integrated NanoGong with Moodle before, please follow steps 1 - 3 listed below.
- If you have integrated NanoGong with Moodle already and want to update it to the newest version, please follow steps I - III listed below.

Installing NanoGong with Moodle 1
1. Installing the NanoGong Activity Module
This stage explains the installation of the NanoGong Activity Module. If you only want to install the NanoGong HTMLArea and Filter you can skip to stage 2. This stage (stage 1) applies to any recent version of Moodle before Moodle version 2.0.
- Download the NanoGong activity module from the downloads page after submitting a request form
- You will see that all the files in the zip file are in the directory
nanogong - Extract the directory and files to the directory
moodle/mod/to createmoodle/mod/nanogong
- Log on Moodle as admin
- Click on the 'Notifications' link
- The Gong module will be automatically installed and you will receive a message saying that the module was installed and the database tables was created
2. Installing the NanoGong Filter
This stage and the next stage explain the installation of the NanoGong Filter and the NanoGong HTMLArea. If you only want to install the NanoGong Activity Module you can skip these two stages. This stage (stage 2) applies to any recent version of Moodle before Moodle version 2.0.
- Download the NanoGong filter from the downloads page after submitting a request form (you probably already did this in step 1.1 above)
- You will see that all the files in the zip file are in the directory
nanogong - Extract the directory and files to the directory
moodle/filter/to createmoodle/filter/nanogong
3. Installing the NanoGong HTMLArea
- Download the NanoGong HTMLArea package according to your Moodle versions
from the downloads page
after submitting a
request form
(you probably already did this in step 1.1 above)
- Packages are available for Moodle versions: 1.7.7, 1.8.14, 1.9.2, 1.9.4, 1.9.6, 1.9.7, 1.9.8, 1.9.9, 1.9.10, 1.9.11 and 1.9.11+
- Please make backups before you proceed with this installation
- You will see that there are a lot of files in different directories
- Extract all files, with their directory structure intact, in the moodle directory
- You will be asked for overwrite confirmation because some of the files already exist in Moodle
- If you use other Moodle versions you may have to patch the files by yourself (see our FAQ here)
Updating an Existing Installation of NanoGong with Moodle 1
I. Updating the NanoGong Activity Module

II. Updating the NanoGong Filter
This stage and the next stage explain the update of the NanoGong Filter and the NanoGong HTMLArea. If you only want to update the NanoGong Activity Module you can skip these two stages. This stage (stage II) applies to any recent version of Moodle before Moodle version 2.0.
